Through the SEL4CA grant, we successfully implemented a Staff Wellness Kit initiative across 15 elementary schools, with the goal of supporting educator wellbeing, reducing burnout, and strengthening the social-emotional capacity of school staff. Grant funds were used to design and place wellness kits in staff lounges, ensuring they were easily accessible during the school day and integrated naturally into daily routines.
The wellness kits provided small but meaningful resources—such as tea, wellness items, mindfulness activities, and positive affirmation cards—that offered staff brief moments of care, encouragement, and stress relief. Educators frequently described the kits as a “positive little mental break” amid the “craziness of the day,” helping to “brighten moods,” provide comfort, and support emotional regulation during demanding moments. A staff member shared that simply knowing the kits were available gave them a sense of reassurance and support, with many accessing the items on a daily basis.
Feedback from educators and support staff highlighted strong themes of feeling seen, valued, and uplifted. Staff described the kits as a “mental high five” and a “much needed welcome addition” to the staff room—something that made them smile and helped them get through the day. The presence of the kits reinforced the message that educator wellbeing matters and that their social-emotional health is a priority within the school community.
Overall, the Staff Wellness Kit initiative had a meaningful impact on staff morale and emotional wellbeing across participating schools. By offering accessible, low-effort wellness supports in shared spaces, the grant helped foster a more supportive and caring school climate. This work aligns directly with SEL4CA’s mission to strengthen social-emotional learning by investing in the wellbeing of the adults who support students every day.
