Humboldt County Office of Education Plans Creative Education Symposium: Connecting the Arts to Social Emotional Learning

The Creative Education Symposium is scheduled for March 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Humboldt County Office of Education’s Sequoia Conference Center in Eureka.

This year, the keynote speaker will be Susie Wise of the Stanford d.school. Wise, the author of the groundbreaking book “Design for Belonging,” will guide attendees on how to cultivate a sense of belonging in any organization, school or community through simple design tools.

In addition to Wise’s keynote, the day will be filled with two-hour arts-related workshops to choose from. Participants can explore shadow puppetry, body percussion and stepping, movement to express social-emotional concepts, or join a workshop that details the connection between social-emotional learning and the arts. And for those eager to put Wise’s teachings into action, there will be a “Design for Belonging: Your Turn” workshop.
