On October 19, SEL4CA honored Goldie Hawn at the first A Vision for the Future event. Goldie received the Inaugural Visionary Award for her 20 years of youth advocacy.
It was a beautiful evening! SEL4CA Board, donors, and valued education leaders gathered at the home of an SEL4CA Board member for an evening of dinner and a program discussing the importance of social emotional learning (SEL) and transforming our schools by leading with love, as Goldie would say.

Thank you to SEL4CA friend Michael Funk, Director of Expanded Learning at CDE for presenting Goldie Hawn with the award and speaking so beautifully about social emotional learning in California. Thank you also to California’s First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, State Superintendent Tony Thurmond and LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho for contributing video messages of appreciation for both Goldie and SEL4CA. We send our deep appreciation to all of our partners, donors, and education leaders for their support.

A little bit more about Goldie Hawn and Mind Up
Goldie Hawn founded MindUP 20 years ago with the goal to create a more compassionate society buoyed by hope and resilience and to impact as many kids as possible—expanding globally to give access to all learners.
Nine independent research studies across four countries (Canada, USA, Uganda and Portugal) have been published supporting the effectiveness of the MindUP curriculum.
Findings show that student participation in the MindUP curriculum leads to
- increases in optimism
- improvements in general self-concept
- improvements in social-emotional competence
- improvements in attention and concentration
- decreases in aggression
- decreases in oppositional/dysregulated behavior
