Because so many tech firms put serious capital and effort for many years behind promoting STEM programs and initiatives, they have proliferated well beyond what SEL proponents have been able to accomplish. Another highly useful argument for all of us in advocating for mass expansion of SEL going forward is to link it to STEM.
