Orange County Regional Update
October 25, 2021
The nation’s schools were already struggling to meet students’ mental health needs when the pandemic hit. How can schools rise to meet students’ ballooning needs in that area as a massive school reopening gets underway?
To be sure, it will be difficult to balance mental health support with an equally massive academic recovery. But child development experts say it’s a balance schools must attempt to strike if they want students to regain their academic footing after an unprecedented year of disruptions, stress, and trauma.
An infusion of federal COVID-19 relief money will help, but how those funds are used will be pivotal. And experts say that schools cannot just focus on the students they know are in crisis; they must bolster supports for all students as well as staff members.

California MTSS 2022 Professional Learning Institute
Join the California MTSS 2022 Professional Learning Institute on July 12-14, 2022. This year’s event will be held in person at the Anaheim Convention Center, next to the Disneyland Resort!
The 2022 Professional Learning Institute will offer a variety of options for in person sessions with some streaming and recorded content. Our theme is “Hear Us, Together We Rise” and the goal is to inspire and uplift educators as we come together to enjoy three days of keynote speakers, featured speakers and interactive breakout sessions that focus on supporting the adults in the system and the needs of the whole child by leveraging the CA MTSS framework to meet the academic, behavioral and social-emotional and mental health needs of our youth. Now more than ever, it is essential to focus on our educators as we learn together what it will take to move forward and create psychologically and physically safe spaces for adults and students to thrive in the future.
